Urban Fresh Food for Low Income Residents

Walking west on Queen Street towards Sherbourne the other day, a painted storage container caught my eye.

“Welcome! Fruits and Veg Are Here,”the sign read.

I went into the ‘shop’ to inquire about the story on this new addition to the landscape. Inside, I met Cyrah. She told me about Urban Fresh Food Market, Building Roots and Toronto City Housing’s collaboration to make healthy food affordable and easily accessible to the community of Moss Park.

Moss Park is a community with a large number of residents living in low income housing. Offering affordable, healthy food in a highly visible location, complete with ramp access, is a wonderful way to bring the whole community together to enjoy fresh food.

You don’t need a silver spoon to eat good food.
